We are living in some very difficult times where our society does not seem to value life outside of their own. Self love and making ourselves top priority is affecting us more than we could ever imagine and that is evident in the recent news story regarding a teenager, her mother and a baby.

Celeste Burgess from Nebraska was just 17 years old when she found herself pregnant. Her mother, Jessica Burgess, and herself decided to take action. At 28 weeks pregnant they utilized abortion pills to terminate Celeste’s pregnancy. They then burned and buried the baby. In Nebraska, abortion is illegal past 20 weeks, so after information was discovered via facebook messenger both Celeste, who is being tried as an adult and Jessica are being charged with one felony count of prohibited acts with human skeletal remains, one misdemeanor count of concealing the death of another person and one misdemeanor count of false information. They have both pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Celeste initially stated she had unexpectedly miscarried a stillborn fetus and that she and her mother later buried the baby. But police reports state the body had thermal injuries leading them to believe the body was burned. It is a horrific thing to think these women burned and then buried a baby who was 28 weeks and had a heartbeat, bones, fingernails, toenails, an almost fully developed nervous system and all the features of a sweet, little baby outside the womb.

Women have so many different options outside of abortion when found with an unplanned pregnancy. Options United can help these women get in touch with pregnancy centers to inform and help them make a decision that is best for them and their baby. You are not alone in an unplanned pregnancy and termination is not the only choice you have.
